Best for:
- Transparent overdrive
- "Always on" base tone
- Stacking overdrives
There are a lot of good overdrive pedals on the market today. But too many of them cover up the tone of your amp. Granted, a pedal that can turn a tweed into a plexi is pretty cool. But what if you don’t want that? What if you think a great overdrive pedal should be an extension of your amp, not a band aid; that it should retain all of the character of the gear you’ve invested in?
The ClearDrive does just that. Unlike most transparent overdrives, the ClearDrive stays transparent even at high gain. A three-band tone control section (Bass, 3kHz, and 8kHz) allows you to dial in a tone that is precisely matched to your amp, but also allows for a broad range of coloration when desired. The ClearDrive has a full low end that remains tight at high gain and a midrange that exhibits incredible note definition.
Best of all, the ClearDrive doesn’t need a cranked amp to sound great. Even at low volumes, you can have great tone – your tone. By blending JFET and Zener clipping, the ClearDrive produces a very natural and gradual transition from clean into first soft clipping, then progressively harder clipping, just like a good tube amp.
